Start with the trip, not the hotel
Before opening a hotel search, write down three things that matter most. Perhaps you want to walk everywhere, have a quiet room and arrive late. Or you need space for luggage, breakfast on site and a straightforward journey to the station. These priorities make comparisons easier than browsing endless attractive rooms.
Put the location to the test
Look up the actual route from the property to your planned stops. Consider the return journey as well, especially after dinner. A central-sounding neighbourhood name does not tell you how far you will walk, whether the route involves hills or how many transport changes you will need.
Compare the same stay
Use the same dates and number of guests for every option. Check the room type, bed arrangement, meal inclusion and cancellation terms. Two prices are not directly comparable if one includes breakfast and flexibility while the other is a room-only, non-refundable rate. Review the final total and any charges payable at the property before committing.
Read for patterns
Recent reviews are useful when several guests describe the same issue. Look for details that relate to your priorities: noise at night, room size, arrival instructions or lift access. A complaint that matters greatly to one traveller may not matter to you, so read the explanation as well as the score.
Check the practical details
Confirm check-in times, luggage storage and accessibility directly when they are essential. Save your booking confirmation and the provider’s contact details. Before confirming, read the booking terms and save the contact details of the company handling your reservation.
