Decide what a restful day looks like

Some people relax with a book; others need a walk before they can sit still. Talk about what you want from the trip before filling the calendar. A beach break does not have to mean spending every hour on the sand. Leave room for different versions of a good day.

Look beyond the sea-view photograph

When choosing a stay, check how you actually reach the waterfront. Look at the route, any steps and the distance to places to eat. Consider whether you want to wander out for dinner or spend most evenings at the property. The daily routine matters as much as the view.

Give each day a loose shape

Try a simple rhythm: an unhurried breakfast, some time outdoors and an open afternoon. Keep any excursion on a separate day so you are not rushing back to make another appointment. If you are travelling with others, agree on a meeting time rather than expecting everyone to follow the same schedule.

Have a different kind of day ready

Wind or rain can change your plans. Bring something you enjoy doing indoors and save a nearby alternative that does not depend on beach weather. Check local conditions before swimming. Your break can still feel like a break even when the best place to sit is a café window rather than a sun lounger.
